Joan, along with her husband, Robert, founded Southern Shows, Inc. Joan's roles have included Development, Sales, Marketing, PR, Training, and all the little jobs in-between that keep a company growing. Her current focus is in an advisory capacity to the shows, with an emphasis on communications. Joan is involved in numerous non-profit organizations, running the gamut from Dress for Success, Women's Inter-Cultural Exchange, and McColl School for Visual Arts. She has served on and chaired dozens of boards, including The Charlotte Branch of Richmond Federal Reserve, Charlotte Chamber, Charlotte Visitors & Convention Bureau, and others. She is the founding Entrepreneur in Residence for the McColl School at Queens University, a 2009 recipient of the Thurgood Marshall Award for Excellence, and in 2005 was inducted into the North Carolina Business Hall of Fame.
