To Booth or Not to Booth

October 27, 2015
To provide full disclosure, this topic is a pet peeve of mine, so if you think I'm making a big deal out of nothing, you're probably right.  I guess that's what pet peeves are.  So here we go . . .
I can't stand the term 'booth.'  I know.  Everyone uses it.  But it just sounds boring and small.   The dictionary definition is: "A small compartment or boxlike room for a specific use by the occupant."
I was recently reminded of my dislike for the term when an exhibitor in the Southern Farm Show ran an ad inviting people to visit their 'booth' at the show.  First,  good for them for pre-promoting their participation.  But second, their 'booth' is 3,600 square feet!  Folks, that's not a booth - that's an exhibit.  And that's what they should be calling it.  And so should you, even if the exhibit you're inviting people to is only 100 square feet.
Personally, I'd be more excited about visiting an exhibit, than about visiting a booth.  But maybe that's just me.

I never thought about it......but you are right!

I think you hit the nail on the head! Not only is it an exhibit.... It is a work of art. The exhibit should have a mind of its own, a living and breathing creature that represents who you are, your personality and what you're about. The customer needs to leave your exhibit feeling like they had an experience like no other. Becky and I believe in operating off of three of our five senses. #1 Sight: We believe we draw in people with our display with the WOW factor. Typically the customer is so taken back by our display that we should add another sense to this because if I had a dollar for every time someone would put her hands on our display and look at it in rub their fingers along it that you can see the enthusiasm and the enjoyment in their facial expressions call with listening to their complements of how nice this is. #2 Hearing: We capture this sense when people are typically hearing the music in our exhibit, my wife or I or the boys saying hey folks how are you come on in look around let us know if you see anything you would like to sample so forth and so on. People are generally curious to what's going on at our sample bar anyhow we only use this technique when there's no one at the sample bar to get the party started as we call it. Because once this gets started we are typically so busy that the beast runs itself. #3 Taste: Well this sense is pretty simple. By the time you have tasted our product.... If you're not simply amazed and or sitting product on the counter for purchase then we simply have not done our job period! We hope everyone has heard you loud and clear.
