Maks Chmerkovskiy from Dancing With The Stars
from ABC’s hit dance competition Dancing with the Stars
will grace the Main Fashion Stage at the Southern Women’s Show on Saturday, September 28th
at 1:00pm. He was born in Ukraine and at the age of four, his parents enrolled him in a school of aesthetic education that taught children to become young gentleman and ladies. It was hear that Maks was first exposed to ballroom dancing. Sports and competition run deep in his blood and as a young child he aspired to be an Olympic swimmer or soccer player. At the age of 13, a skiing accident and titanium rod to stabilize his leg almost ended any chance of competitive sports or dancing, but he recovered and was dancing again within six months. He and his parents and younger brother Val, immigrated to the United States the following year and lived in Brooklyn. At the age of 16, Maks and his father opened a youth oriented dance studio (Rising Stars Dance Academy) and now along with his brother, they own a collection of adult dance studios known Dance With Me. Maks first appeared on Season two of Dancing with the Stars and was often referred to as “the bad boy of ballroom.” His dance partners have included actresses Denise Richards, Kristie Alley, Melissa Gilbert, athletes Laila Ali and Misty May-Trainer, sportscaster Erin Andrews and Spice Girl Mel B. He won the mirror ball trophy with partner Meryl Davis, Olympic Medalist Ice Dancer. Maks married fellow Dancing with the Stars
pro dancer, Peta Murgatroyd and together they have a two year old son, Shia.
